Manchester counselling’s comprehensive matching process has been invaluable, as it has connected me with private clients who are a good fit for my therapeutic approach.
The support they provide means I don’t have to worry about marketing or client acquisition, allowing me to focus entirely on delivering quality care.

Common questions
Do I have to be based in Manchester?
While we support therapists providing video and telephone sessions, we require our practitioners to have access to a professional, non-domestic consulting space within the Manchester area for in-person client work.
What clinical experience is required?
To ensure our clients receive the highest standard of care, we look for experienced therapists who have completed a minimum of 500 hours of post-qualification clinical experience.
How do client referrals work?
We connect skilled therapists with clients actively seeking support in Manchester. You will gain a steady flow of referrals and have the freedom to choose how many you take on, allowing you to grow your practice without the burden of marketing.
Can I still run my independent private practice?
Absolutely. Partnering with us allows you to maintain your autonomy and run your own practice independently while benefiting from our referral network and reputation.
Do I have to be accredited?
No. Accreditation is not required to join. However, we do expect all therapists to be professionally qualified and to work ethically within the standards of their chosen professional body.
Can I practise from my home?
For in-person services, we require therapists to work from a professional, office-based location that is not a domestic residence. However, our therapists are more than welcome to deliver online sessions from their home address, provided the environment is private and professional.
Are there any fees to join Manchester Counselling?
There are no upfront costs, membership fees, or subscription charges to join our team. We operate on a success-based partnership model, meaning we only generate revenue when we successfully match you with a client and sessions take place.
Can I offer online-only sessions?
No. Our service is primarily focused on supporting clients to arrange in-person therapy. Approximately 80% of our referrals request this option. While we do arrange online sessions when it is the client's preference, our partners must be able to offer in-person availability.
Do I need my own insurance and DBS certification?
Yes. All practitioners joining Manchester Counselling are required to hold current professional indemnity insurance and a DBS certificate. We will ask to see both before you begin accepting referrals. If your DBS is more than three years old, we recommend updating it before applying.
